I want to be successful. Also, I am a procrastinator. (Go figure, right?)
I have collected a lot of information products from different sources. Old books, old audio or video tapes, from YouTube academy, even on X (was Twitter) or Facebook.
There was a lot of information on how to be successful. Many of which are regurgitation of old advice from a few decades ago. New spin on words, but still the same concepts.
I didn’t finish most of them because once you read the headline or heading, you get the gist of it. The rest was just fluff. Books that are 200-500 pages. Audiotapes or videotapes that are 8 to 36 hours at least on courses. Not much action on the info.
But having all these info products in my stash says a lot about me: a procrastinator. Yes, I am aware I am still not successful. Maybe the next course/video/book is the answer, right?
Which brings me to my next point and the advice that started my perspective.
I was watching a course, by a famous Guru who ran a Ponzi scheme, and I was mesmerized by how he presented this one idea. The guru is not important or how the Ponzi scheme scammed investors out of hundreds of millions. You can still learn something from them, using the ideas ethically.
He had this brilliant idea of deserving.
I have heard of this idea before but it was used in the manifesting way, which I don’t agree or like. The way he framed it was that you can get all the things you want, if you really deserve it.
He didn’t teach the concept by ‘asking the universe and meditating to gather the energies to bring success to you’. What he meant was that if you really want to be successful (in whatever you are doing), do you deserve that success?
For me, I am looking for a career position that I want. Have I put in the necessary training to at least deserve the position I am asking for? Did I do due diligence to get the promotion o the interview, to get the spot?
Deserving was such a powerful concept for me that my decisions are framed around this. It’s not about right/wrong or who’s smarter or richer. It puts a barrier or entry for those who have not put in the work.
I don’t know how this will be useful for you. Find a way to incorporate this into your life. You’d be surprised when you know you truly deserve your success.
Learning about other tactics and mental models helped connect the information to be useful but it’s such a hard task to put them all together in one place. Also, it is hard to correlate one and say it’s all you need to be successful.
When you have that attitude of deserving, you will not go wrong. Use it to your success.
