Writing…Flow?
I noticed that flow happens when I do something for more than 30 minutes.
This. Typing right now. I am trying to get into a flow state.
Flow is when you are in that state where everything just…flows.
You can notice that when time is irrelevant. You don’t notice that an hour has passed.
That’s what I’m trying to get to when practicing writing.
Since I have a hard time coming up with ideas, I use a prompt to form an idea around.
Not sure how to arrive there, but I’ll get there.
I’ll just let it flow while trying to use techniques that I’ve learned about writing.
I’ve outlined how I plan to go about writing.
Plan to Write Bad So Can Get Good
So the other day, I read about a method from this writer about how to get over your first draft.
As you know, the first draft of anything is the enemy of anyone starting.
This is what I’m doing here. If you’ve read the previous post, you know what the method is.
I’ve not done it here.
It is not using the delete button while writing anything.
Ugh.
Anyway, I’m writing this because I’m trying to find a way to find a way for me to be able to do this more.
Writing in such a way that’s fun or how to do anything so you keep doing it.
I’ve been toying with motivation and it just seems like a word people use to make excuses.
Because that is what I’ve been doing, making excuses. I’ll talk about excuses more later.
I’m tired. I don’t want to write today. I should be doing something else. What game is on today? I’m a little hungry.
You know, standard excuses just so I don’t do it. That “it” right now is writing.
I’ve been at this for 3 days. ONLY 3 DAYS.
And I plan to do this for 365 days. Without the help of AI. Well, I’m using AI to get topics but that’s it. Not even an outline or any other help.
But anyway, this is how I’m going to do it.
- Write here on WP and post immediately. I won’t make revisions. Just like Seth Godin said, Publish daily even if nobody is reading. So I’m doing it.
- I only write for 33:33 minutes. Found this one from Gary Halbert. I don’t know why, I’ll use it.
- Use AI to find interesting topics ONLY. I am not outsourcing thinking right now. I want to master how thinking works in writing. I read somewhere that the future is in those who can think outside of AI.
- Use writing techniques while writing. Well, this one is kinda obvious but I want to use copywriting techniques while writing. You can’t get better if you are not doing what you are learning.
- Golden Hour. This concept I got from a lot of sources that say to do the habit at the same time every day. I’m going to choose early morning around 5 AM because that is the only time that I am sure I can do this without interruption.
- Post on Twitter. This idea is recommended because you can test an idea fast and see what really works for an audience. I like it too because I am connecting with other writers as well.
For now, this is what I am going to do.
In the next posts, expect to see a lot of…terrible posts. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m trying to incorporate the learnings.
I’ll talk about how to fight a monster. What? I’ll talk about it more later.
Regards,
Floyd ‘pseudo writer’ A.
