Writing is a painful process. It’s not for everybody.
But if you want to improve yourself and know who you really are, this is a great way to start.
We all know how to write.
In school, we all had that paper that has to be 6 pages long, 12 font Times New Roman, double spaced with the specific rules on the titles and paragraphs.
But we were never really taught how to use writing to express ourselves.
Here are 3 reasons why I started writing and how it has helped me improve as a person.
1. Creativity
Writing is a great way to express yourself meaningfully and creatively. It allows you to develop your thoughts and ideas and describe yourself in a way that may not be possible verbally.
Writing about a topic is not unique. You don’t have to be the first to say something. I struggle with writing because when I start typing out my thoughts, I think to myself, “Man, I watched a YouTube video about this topic and this other creator said it better.”
This is Impostor Syndrome you are feeling and I tell you that it does not go away. There is no cure for this, but you can learn how to use it.
A topic has been said before but not in your own voice.
So, now, I just keep typing and not let that little voice in my head take over.
2. Skill
Writing also helps to improve my communication skills and develop a better understanding of different perspectives. It helps to build an appreciation of other points of view and gives readers an insight into different ways of thinking.
We all have our opinion on something. We don’t agree on everything.
And that’s okay.
When researching a topic, I try to find an angle that resonates with me, and I stick with that. I improve how to deliver it so others will understand the main idea.
The more I publish and read about communication, the more I learn how I can improve the craft.
3. Clarity
Finally, writing can also be a great form of self-exploration. Writing helps me process and clarify my thoughts and feelings. It also helps me gain a better understanding of myself, and make connections between my thoughts and emotions.
Writing has made me get clear on who I am. It’s a never-ending process, and the more I write about my thoughts, the clearer things are for me.
So, that’s a few reasons why I started writing. This is something I’ve always wanted to do but have been putting aside.
As someone who has only started writing, it is definitely not an easy process. I write about how to build habits that make you a better person and how to improve your life by making small changes. These are things that have helped me improve my life and my hope is that they can also help you too.
